Frontloading and Fregean Sense: Reply to Neta, Schroeter, and Stanley
نویسندگان
چکیده
I would like to thank Ram Neta, Laura Schroeter, and Jason Stanley for their generous and probing comments on Constructing the World. 1 All three of them home in on key issues in the argumentation of the book. Neta and Schroeter focus on the argument for A Priori Scrutability, and especially the key frontloading argument for that thesis. Stanley focuses on whether the semantic values that are defined in terms of scrutability can truly serve as Fregean senses. All of them raise serious challenges that need to be addressed.

On a special class of Stanley-Reisner ideals
For an $n$-gon with vertices at points $1,2,cdots,n$, the Betti numbers of its suspension, the simplicial complex that involves two more vertices $n+1$ and $n+2$, is known. In this paper, with a constructive and simple proof, wegeneralize this result to find the minimal free resolution and Betti numbers of the $S$-module $S/I$ where $S=K[x_{1},cdots, x_{n}]$ and $I$ is the associated ideal to ...
متن کاملFregean logics
According to Frege’s principle the denotation of a sentence coincides with its truthvalue. The principle is investigated within the context of abstract algebraic logic, and it is shown that taken together with the deduction theorem it characterizes intuitionistic logic in a certain strong sense. A 2nd-order matrix is an algebra together with an algebraic closed set system on its universe. A ded...

متن کاملThe Contents of Consciousness: Reply to Hellie, Peacocke, and Siegel
I would like to thank Benj Hellie, Chris Peacocke, and Susanna Siegel for their very interesting commentaries on The Character of Consciousness. All of them focus mainly on issues from the second half of the book, especially issues concerning the contents of consciousness. Hellie focuses especially on the role of acquaintance and perceptual attention in perception and introspection and on the o...
متن کاملSameness of Fregean sense
This paper develops a criterion for sameness of Fregean senses. I consider three criteria: logical equivalence, intensional isomorphism, and epistemic equipollence. I reject the first two and argue for a version of the third.
